, Jakarta - Former Governor of DKI Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok handed over the legal process of perpetrators of defamation against him to the police. According to Ahok, every perpetrator of defamation and contempt will only wake up when dealing with the law.

"If people have been overcome with hatred, any suggestion will not be useful and will only realize when there is a threat of punishment or an event of punishment from God," Ahok said through his short message, Sunday, August 2, 2020.

Two women with the initials US, 67 years old and EJ, 47 years old have now become suspects because of alleged insult to Ahok and his family. US and EJ are known to come from a community they call Veronica Lovers. This group is a fan of Veronica Tan, Ahok's ex-wife.

Ahok said that he was still waiting for the police to process the suspects. Regarding the apologies from the suspects and their peaceful invitation, Ahok did not want to say much. "You will see."

This defamation case began when the US and EJ sent messages of contempt for Ahok and his family through Ahok's official Instagram account some time ago.

According to Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus, one of the insults was to juxtapose photos of Ahok, his wife and child with pictures of animals and the word scolding.

Ahok's attorney, Ahmad Ramzy said he got the power of attorney from Ahok to report the case to the police. Ramzy then made a police report on May 17, 2020. "The point is defamation in the social media, yes," said Ramzy.

The police then investigated and arrested a suspect of insulting Ahok in Bali. Grandmother with the initials US was later arrested and taken to Jakarta. In addition, another person with the initials EJ domiciled in Medan was also arrested.
