, Jakarta - The South Jakarta Police and the Education Office are working together to reduce the number of students participating in the Omnibus Law demonstration of the Job Creation Law.

South Jakarta Deputy Police Chief AKBP Agustinus Agus Rahmanto said the collaboration was proven to reduce the number of students involved in the demonstration on October 20, 2020.

"The fact is that yesterday the students were given a lot of assignments, we do not know whether this assignment was given after we advised that there would be a demonstration and the assignment was given to our younger siblings. The last one was the demonstration yesterday, very few students were secured," said AKBP. Agus at the South Jakarta Police Headquarters, Thursday, October 22, 2020.

The involvement of students in the Omnibus Law demonstration is a serious concern of many parties. Moreover, the demonstration was anarchist and damaged a number of public facilities.

On October 16, the South Jakarta Police together with the Regional Education Office of South Jakarta agreed to prevent students from participating in demonstrations by giving school assignments and mandatory absences in the morning, afternoon and evening.

During these two days, the South Jakarta Police received reports from the parents of students that their children were assigned four chapters of school assignments. According to Agus, the assignment of this school assignment is very targeted and beneficial to prevent students from joining in or taking part in demonstrations.

The Metro Police also coordinates with the South Jakarta Education Sub-dept. And provides information on demonstrations on D-1 so that the school is assisted by parents to supervise their children doing school work at home.

During the October 20 demonstration, the South Jakarta Police only found 10 students who wanted to take part in a demonstration at the Merdeka Palace. This number is less than the wave of demonstrations on 7-8 October which reached more than 100 children.

The South Jakarta Police discovered the fact that there were students being used to participate in the demonstration which ended in chaos. This fact was obtained from data collection carried out on a number of students who were arrested when they were about to take part in the action at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on 7-8 October 2020.
