, Jakarta - A pulmonary specialist at the Friendship Hospital , Erlina Burhan, said that happy hypoxia is only experienced by symptomatic Covid-19 patients. "Usually, happy hypoxia is not found in people without symptoms (OTG). So symptomatic people, ”said Erlina in a discussion on the BNPB Youtube account, Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

Erlina explained, hypoxia is a lack of oxygen in the blood. Normally, people will experience shortness of breath when they lack oxygen. However, this feeling of tightness is not experienced in some Covid-19 patients because there has been damage to the nerves that deliver the sensors to the brain. "So that the brain cannot recognize the occurrence of lack of oxygen in the blood," he said.

Symptoms of happy hypoxia, said Erlina, would appear if a Covid-19 patient had symptoms in the form of a persistent cough, fever, and complaints of weakness. If the color of the lips or fingertips is blue, it indicates that oxygen saturation has decreased.

"Immediately run to the hospital. Do not wait for blue if the cough increases, you are weak, immediately check it with pulse oximetry. If you don't have it, go straight to the hospital, ”he said.

To avoid happy hypoxia, Erlina also advised the public not to become Covid-19 patients . The method is also simple, namely by complying with health protocols in the form of wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap and running water.
