, Jakarta - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) of Indonesia Bambang Soesatyo encourage the Ministry of Agriculture to conduct clinical trials of the antiviral corona or COVID 19th Eucalyptus-based innovation results of the institution.

"I fully support and appreciate the Ministry of Agriculture's initiative that has arrived at the corona antivirus product. I even encourage this work to continue. But regarding its efficacy, I hope that the Ministry of Agriculture is wise because so far only the Ministry of Agriculture has made claims about the efficacy of the drug product," said Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) through his written statement, in Jakarta, Sunday, July 5, 2020.

Bamsoet appreciated the Ministry of Agriculture's initiative and courage in promoting the essential oil content of eucalyptus leaves as an anti corona, but before the drug product was offered to the public, the Ministry had to follow a new drug testing protocol.

Ministry of Agriculture and Research and Development (Balitbangtan) of the Ministry of Agriculture has published corona antivirus products in the form of necklaces, "roll on", "in haler", ointment, balm, and "defuser" which are claimed to be able to kill COVID-19.

In the midst of anxiety due to the absence of a vaccine that is able to neutralize the excess corona virus, the Head of the FKPPI State Defense Agency assessed the achievement of the IAARD would be worthy of appreciation.

However, said the Golkar Party politician, as well as similar efforts by experts in a number of countries, products from the Ministry of Agriculture should continue to undergo clinical trial procedures.

"To avoid the impression of a one-sided claim, the corona antivirus product from the Ministry of Agriculture should first follow the testing protocol or clinical trials for new medicinal and herbal products. Including testing its efficacy in humans," Bamsoet said.

The former Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives added that the presence and involvement of other parties in the clinical trials of new drugs is needed not only for the sake of the truth about the efficacy of the drug, but also to strengthen the claim for the efficacy of the drug or herbal new product.

"For the sake of clinical trials, it is very relevant if the Ministry of Agriculture synergizes or cooperates with the Ministry of Health and the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). As a new drug or herbal product, the testing stage must also involve other relevant parties," Bamsoet said.
