, Jakarta - The political and government research institute , Nagara Institute , assessed that the fire at the Attorney General's Office was a direct attack on the state and Indonesia's sovereignty.

The Executive Director of the Nagara Institute, Akbar Faisal, said that this indication could be seen from the results of the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Agency at the National Police Headquarters.

"The Nagara Institute considers the results of the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Police Headquarters to be sufficient to form the basis that the fire at the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia, which is a vital object of the state, is a direct attack on the state and Indonesian sovereignty," said Akbar in a written statement, Friday night, 18 September 2020.

Bareskrim's investigation found the Attorney General's building fire on August 22 originated from an open fire. This conclusion is the result of examination of 131 witnesses and the finding of a jerry can. Considered fulfilling a criminal element, Bareskrim also raised the status of the investigation to an investigation.

Akbar said that the conclusion of the Bareskrim investigation seemed to justify the many views of the public relating the building fire to a major case being handled by the Attorney General's Office.

Although the Attorney General's Office initially denied this assumption, said Akbar, the results of the Police investigation confirmed that there was an element of deliberation in the fire.

Akbar said the perpetrators of the Attorney General's building fire must be severely punished by Article 187 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and / or Article 188 KUHP. Article 187 of the Criminal Code contains a maximum threat of 12-15 years in prison if it causes a victim. Meanwhile, Article 188 of the Criminal Code contains the threat of a sentence of five years in prison if an error causes a fire.

Akbar continued that the action could also be categorized as a form of terror against state institutions if it was proven to be deliberate. He considered that this could be subject to Article 6 of the Criminal Act of Terrorism Number 5 of 2008.

This article states that any person who deliberately uses violence or threats of violence that creates an atmosphere of terror or fear towards people in a widespread manner, causes a large number of victims by taking away freedom or loss of life and property of others, or causing damage or destruction to people. vital strategic objects, the environment or public facilities or international facilities, shall be punished with imprisonment of a minimum of five years and a maximum of twenty years, life imprisonment or death penalty.

"Also the article obstruction of justice as regulated in Article 21 of Law Number 31 Year 1999 concerning Corruption Eradication," said the former member of the Law Commission of the House of Representatives.

Nagara Institute also urged President Joko Widodo to take serious and tough steps by instructing the National Police to immediately reveal the motive for the burning of the AGO building. Akbar said the deliberate element in the fire was a direct threat to the credibility of the legitimate government.

"Nagara Institute also urged the DPR RI to take political steps to face this scandal by forming a special committee (special committee) as part of its supervisory function," said Akbar Faisal .
